How ecosystems are ranked
The best-known ranking is Startup Genome's Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER). The 2026 edition, released in June 2026 with the Global Entrepreneurship Network, covers over 5.5 million startups across 350+ ecosystems. It scores each ecosystem on six factors: performance, funding, market reach, talent and experience, AI-native cluster strength and R&D.
Other widely used rankings include the StartupBlink Global Startup Ecosystem Index and Dealroom's Global Tech Ecosystem Index. Each uses different data, so positions vary between reports.

What stood out in 2026
- US strength: Seattle made the biggest jump inside the top 10, and Austin and Dallas both climbed more than 10 places.
- Europe: London stayed third and remains Europe's leading ecosystem; Stockholm was the standout European climber.
- China: nearly every Chinese ecosystem in the top 40 slipped, with Wuxi the exception.
- India: Bengaluru ranked 15th and scored 9/10 on R&D; Delhi placed 31st.
